Campania Wine Dinner | August 21

August 21, 2025 07:00 PM

Italy is not homogenous. It is a vibrant tapestry of cultures, dialects, topographies, climates, flora, and fauna. Therefore, its food and its wine change dramatically according to where you find yourself on the peninsula, or off it. The Tavernetta Wine Dinner series is an exploration of the very best of Italy's diverse food and wine traditions from the comfort of the dining room of Tavernetta Vail. It’s a sensory journey through our favorite food and wine country on Earth.

Join us Thursday, August 21st for an evening celebrating Campania.

The Amalfi Coast: along this illustrious stretch of coastline, just south of Naples, the rugged, mountainous Campanian interior plunges abruptly into the Mediterranean. Pastel buildings cascade down cliff sides, and winding roads sweep precipitously above rock and pale blue water. As they say about the Mosel, the Northern Rhône, or Ribeira Sacra, dramatic landscapes produce dramatic wine.

Thanks to the ancient Romans, Campania boasts one of the western world’s oldest winemaking traditions. It produces vibrant, mineral, sea breeze fresh summer whites, well-suited to the shade of a blue-striped patio umbrella in Positano, as well as white wines of richness, depth, and texture. But there is more to Campania than its Mediterranean coast. Inland, into the mountains, resides the ancient, reclusive grape varietal Aglianico, which produces some of Italy’s most serious, structured, and age-worthy reds. Plus, thanks to the sea, fertile volcanic soils, and abundant sunshine, Campania’s raw ingredients, full of energy, form one of the peninsula’s richest culinary traditions.
